Making spirits bright at Elmcrest

Cottage 1 stockings hung by the chimney with care.

Many of the youth residents at Elmcrest come from homes where life was a challenge every day, but especially during the darkest days each year. That's one reason why Elmcrest staff do all they can to spread holiday cheer on campus. Most years, that includes a large tree-lighting ceremony, door-to-door caroling, and a book fair, among other group activities. This year, Elmcrest staff found ways to spread the holiday cheer without large indoor gatherings.

Besides the virtual Holiday Book Fair, Elmcrest staff organized an outdoor ornament-making/custom-hot-cocoa event. On-campus youth attended in small groups.

Staff are keeping children busy with fun holiday activities within their cottages as well. The youth in one cottage built a large snowman and customized their own gift stockings. The youth in another cottage made their own stockings, ugly sweaters and edible ornaments. When the weather is right, our kids are out sledding and doing other winter activities, complete with candy canes and hot cocoa.

Of course, the eyes of every child on campus will be all aglow on Christmas morning, thanks to the many Elmcrest Elves. We're so grateful to all who gave, and to all of our friends.

From all of us at Elmcrest, Merry Christmas!
