High Marks for Gratitude
The thanks stretched out for seven days, when the students at Elmcrest celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week earlier in May. The boys and girls got A’s for creativity, with handmade gifts for all 16 Syracuse City teachers who staff our campus school.
Cottage #1 used Scrabble tiles to make nameplates. Cottage #7 painted corks to add to magnetic planters with succulents. Cottage # 8 used paint on lake rocks to make beautiful paperweights. Cottage # 9 painted jars to resemble giant pencils, and Cottage # 11 used candy bars, complete with capes, for superheroes.
The children at Elmcrest are taught values as well as the three “R’s.” This project was an excellent lesson on “gratitude.” Tucked inside each gift were notes from the residents just saying “thanks.”
