Therapeutic Foster Care
Every kid is one caring adult away from being a success story.
The Elmcrest Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) Program, approved by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, is a specialized program designed to match high-needs foster children with specially trained foster parents. We are committed to recruiting, training, and fully supporting our foster parents, children, and birth families. Our goal is to provide a safe, loving, and supportive home for children, with the primary goal of reuniting children with their biological families.
When a child or youth enters into the foster care system, their behavioral, emotional, social, and medical needs are assessed. This process allows us to match them with an environment that can best meet their needs. Therapeutic foster care, as opposed to traditional foster care, offers more intensive supports and trainings to foster parents in order to effectively work with foster children and youth who have higher needs.
Our multidisciplinary team is fully committed to ensuring foster families have all the tools, skills, and support necessary to successfully parent, as well as to have a fulfilling experience. We provide ongoing communication and trainings to ensure our foster parents have all the tools they need to provide the best care possible in their home, and to feel successful as foster parents.
Who We Serve
Children from birth to age 21 may need foster care for just a few days, or may be in placement for longer than a year. Some children are stepping down from residential treatment, many have suffered abuse, and others have never lived in environments with expectations or structure. Most of these children and youth have built walls around themselves to keep themselves emotionally and physically safe, and all have lost their homes and families.
